In order to upload the highest-resolution Google Earth photos quickly and perfectly registered, one must use Global Mapper (about $300). Global Mapper, among its many features, has the ability to import georeferenced Google Earth .jpg photos registered as Ozi Exolorer .map files and export them as a .kmz map file containing 100 or less tiles (a requirement for Garmin's Custom Maps).
Exporting the data files as .kmz files to the Garmin unit is easy as 1,2,3.
