My new Garmin 765t arrived last night and I am trying to D/L the program that lets me download my "onetime free map upgrade" but it is taking hours. Is this a Win 7 problem or is Garmin trying to discourage updates? What's going on here?

Thanks,
Bob

I can't speak to the Windows 7 part of your question, since I use a mac, but when I did the same thing you are trying to do the download was ~2gb and does take hours. Garmin isn't trying to discourage anything, but there's a reason they normally ship the updates on a dvd.

Ok, thanks, it finally finished. I suppose there is a gigabyte file it has to download next. LOL

Mine was at a time when they weren't doing quarterly updates and I purchased it at a time when it went from 2008 to 2009 maps. Now that you can be going from 2010.1 to 2010.2 the download might be smaller.

It was a small update -- didn't take long at all. Thanks for the info...
