I received a gift of an old GPS 38 and would like to update the software to enable me to use it... it's stuck on 3Jan00 now... I powered it up a few days ago and have been unable to get it to lock on and find my location... it does find satellites (3) so far but has not given me the correct time or location.

What web site should I go to to update?

I do have a power cord finally and connection to a USB port on my computer. The Garmin update program, WebUpdater does not find the unit... I have the unit on Garmin and Host.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Larry

I believe that it's not possible to update the firmware on the GPS 38. There's nothing shown on Garmin's firmware update page

Edit to add: A little Googling turned up this page with a link to a download for correcting "The End-Of-Week-Rollover problem"

From this webpage:

4) On the other hand, we used an old GPS 38, turned it on with fresh batteries, DID NOT use
autolocate mode. In 4 hours the GPS 38 had healed itself through patiently looking for satellites.

Thanks... guess I'll try to be patient and see what happens. Yours did work after y2k so I guess this one should if I wait a bit.

Success! I now have a working 38! The tip about not using autolocate was the key I think...

THANKS!

What an incredible resource this site is! Thank you all (Dale, Joe, Jack and many others) for the great support.
