Hi everyone I'm a newbe to this site. I've been working on using a Garmin 18 5hz oem type sensor and I've encountered a problem in that I've had two quit working in the last 2 years. Both units were replaced but I have a lingering doubt if it was a coincidence or is there something wrong with my application.
I have used GPS 18 1 hz unit also with no problems for two years.
My input circuit is a common emitter transistor circuit with the GPS tx (white) wire connected to a 10k ohm resistor that goes to the transistor base. The collector is connected to a 5k ohm resistor, the other end of the resistor is connected to +5v.
The transistor collector connects to a 18F Microcontroller USART.
Does anyone have any ideas or recommendations for the type of application?
Thanks for any help.
