I have a 76cx and use the Canada toposoftware garmin maps. My question is when I save a waypoint(s) to the 76cx how do I transfer them to the topo map source installation on my computer so I don't loose them when I re-install new maps on the 76cx data card? I have searched for this using the search function but I may not have worded the search inquiry correctly. Many thanks for any resposes. Dave

The maps and waypoints are seperate. Both can be transfered at the same time but do not have to be. Just updating the maps will not affect the waypoints. You can download the waypoints to your computer using Mapsource.

Garmin tech support informed me awhile back that tracks and waypoints are stored in the unit's base memory, not in the SD card. Maps are stored on the SD card, so do not affect tracks and waypoints. I understand that the new software update allows you to store tracks on the SD card, but I haven't messed with that yet.

The new software keeps a log each day of trackponts. I have not tried to see if it keeps those that have been cleared during the day oor all trackpoints, It names them yyyymmdd.GPX.
