Hi,

Just purchased a nuvi 200w and am wondering if it's possible to view the DEM maps on it?

Also, is it possible to view tides information on a nuvi 200w?

thanks

Unfortunately only Garmin maps work on Garmin units.
There are utilities that can sort of convert other maps to Garmin format, but it is not trivial.

If you're asking about the Garmin maps with the DEM data (Digital Elevation Model) I have seen reports of it working on the nüvi® 5000 (link). Not sure about your model.

DEM shading from Garmin topo maps will show at all zoom levels on the Nuvi 5000 if using the latest firmware. I have one, and this capability appeared the last time I updated the firmware. At first I thought it was pretty cool, then I learned to hate it. Makes the map very hard to read as the roads disappear into the shaded terrain. It will also show shaded terrain using the regular City Navigator maps, but only when you zoom WAY out (around 20 miles or more). This doesn't seem helpful to me at all personally.

The Nuvi 200 series doesn't support shaded terrain, but the nuvi 205 series does. I believe you will also see shaded terrain on the Nuvi 500, 705, 800 and 805 series. I suspect the new 1200, 1300 and 1400 series will also support. But I am not sure if the shaded terrain from topo maps will show at all zoom levels on these other models. I do know they will show shaded terrain using City Navigator when zoomed out as described above.

AFAIK, none of the Nuvi's will show tide info.
