I bought a Lowrance and a 2008 hotmaps sd card for it. I took the lowrance back but not the sd card and bought a Magellan 1500. Then I see the Hotmaps sd card will not work in the Magellan and it says not to put the card into a card reader to download maps and charts from the card as I will lose the charts. Is this so and now what do I do with the sd card? :?

Usually the pre-programmed map cards are encrypted and can only be read by the mfgr's equipment. The maps are different for each mfgr and use a proprietary format. You can only use the sd card for the unit it's programmed for.

Sorry to hear about your problem. You have 4 choices.

1. Take it back to where you bought it, and they may give you credit for a Magellan map.
2. Go back to a Lowrance unit.
3. Sell your card on E-bay.
4. Give it away.

Other than that, that is about it.
