I just bought a Magellan Triton 400, and I have a specific task I need to accomplish with it.
I need to map a trail system, then transfer the map to my PC.
I have no experience with the Magellan Triton 400 but generally speaking you should be able to download a tracklog from your GPS and bring it into desktop software.

I would like the map to be overlaid on a satellite photo of the area to provide the trail map with actual terrain features to assist the viewer in orienting themselves with the trail.
Is this possible? If so, where would the overlay take place, in the 400 or in the PC? Where and how would I go about it? Will it integrate with Google Earth or some other online mapping site? Do I need to purchase other software to make this happen?
What is the source of your satellite photo? You can use a program like OxiExplorer to georeference the photo and overlay your downloaded tracklog on it.
There are also programs like GPSTrackMaker (freeware) which will export the track directly to GoogleEarth for viewing.
